This beautiful example of a BMW e9 3.0 CS came to us from Germany. As is often the case, the classic car was visually spruced up by the seller in order to achieve a price that did not correspond to the market value in this condition. The car had all the damage typical of the e9. Sills and A-pillars rusted through, resulting in sagging doors, strut domes broken, front damage, rear damage, etc. Therefore, once again the advice: inform yourself before buying or viewing a classic car. This saves trouble but especially a lot of money. Precisely for the reasons described above, a full restoration ended up being a partial restoration.

Encyclopedia

The BMW E9 is a series of coupes produced by Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) between 1968 and 1975 and is now considered a classic vehicle. Known for their elegant lines and sporty performance, these cars are highly prized and symbolize a significant era in BMW history.

The E9 was created as a further development of the 2000 C and 2000 CS coupés. The striking design was created by the renowned designer Wilhelm Hofmeister. Particularly striking are the long bonnet, the flat roofline and the characteristic Hofmeister kink in the C-pillar, a design element that still characterizes BMW today.

Under the hood, the E9 offers advanced technology with M30 six-cylinder inline engines, known for their reliability and performance. Engine variants range from 2.5 to 3.2 liters. The 3.0 CSL, a top model with lightweight components, is particularly popular with classic car workshops for restorations.

The E9, especially the “Batmobile”, was extremely successful in motorsport and strengthened BMW’s reputation as a sports car manufacturer. These successes are also reflected in the enthusiasm for restoring these vehicles.

The BMW E9 symbolizes Germany's economic boom in the late 1960s and early 1970s. E9 models are sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, and their restoration often requires special spare parts. The popularity of restorations shows the appreciation for historical documentation and the preservation of the original condition.

Overall, the BMW E9 represents a glorious era and remains a sought-after collector's item for car enthusiasts. Restoring, maintaining and repairing these models requires both technical knowledge and a passion for historic vehicles, making the E9 a valuable project for classic car enthusiasts.
