Encyclopedia

The Cadillac DeVille, introduced in 1959, quickly established itself as the epitome of American luxury vehicles. Originally designed as an upscale trim level of the Cadillac Series 62, the DeVille became an independent model series from 1959 onwards.

The first generation (1959-1960) was characterized by distinctive tail fins and generous use of chrome, typical features of Cadillac design at the time. These models were powered by a 6.4-liter V8 engine with 325 hp, which ensured superior performance.

The second generation (1961–1964) saw a stylistic development. The tail fins were designed more discreetly and the body had clearer lines. Technically, the 6.4-liter V8 engine was retained, but comfort and equipment were further improved.

The third generation (1965-1970) brought with it a comprehensive redesign. The body was longer and wider, giving the vehicle an even more imposing presence. From 1968, a 7.7-liter V8 engine with 375 hp was used, which ensured impressive performance.

The Cadillac DeVille was available in various body styles, including a two-door coupe (Coupe DeVille), a four-door sedan (Sedan DeVille) and, at times, a convertible. The convertible was particularly popular and is now considered a sought-after classic.

By 1970, the Cadillac DeVille had established itself as a symbol of luxury and American engineering. Its combination of elegant design, powerful engines and high levels of comfort made it one of the most sought-after vehicles of its time. Today, models from this era are valued by classic car enthusiasts and are sought-after collector's items.
