Glas, founded in 1883 in Dingolfing, Bavaria, began as a manufacturer of agricultural machinery. After World War II, the company specialized in scooters and entered automobile production in the 1950s.
The brand made a name for itself with models such as the Goggomobil, a popular small car, and later sportier vehicles such as the Glas 1700 and the Glas GT.
Glas became particularly well-known for the introduction of the toothed belt drive, a technical innovation in engine construction.
In 1966, Glas was taken over by BMW, which led to the discontinuation of the brand. Nevertheless, Glas remains an important part of German automotive history and technological development.
