Another example of the French automotive industry and another car from the collection of a lover of French, unusual and somewhat bizarre vintage cars. After more than 20 years in a barn in Hanover, this Matra 530LX came to its current owner in 2015. The restoration planned for 2020 was postponed due to COVID and did not start until 2023. This again shows the big problem with French vintage cars: the supply of spare parts is poor and without membership in the corresponding French club you fail in most cases. Knowledge of the French language is almost essential.

Encyclopedia

The Matra M530 is a French sports car model produced from 1967 to 1973 by Matra, a well-known aerospace company. This vehicle is a remarkable evolution of the Matra 530 and an excellent example of unconventional sports cars with a certain cult status.

The striking and futuristic design of the Matra M530, designed by Michelotti, retained the plastic body and GRP monocoque chassis of the previous model. These features allowed for low weight and good performance characteristics. The M530 was a two-seater convertible with a removable Targa roof, offering the possibility of partially or fully opening the roof, thus maximizing driving pleasure.

The Matra 530 was powered by a 1.7-liter four-cylinder engine that produced between 70 and 75 hp, depending on the engine variant and model year. These engines offered decent acceleration and a respectable top speed. The M530 was also offered as the "530LX" and "530SX" during its life cycle.

The interior of the Matra M530 was simple but functional and ergonomically designed. Although the emphasis was on sportiness, the interior offered sufficient comfort for longer journeys.

The Matra M530 was designed primarily for the European market and was produced in limited numbers. Although it was not sold in large quantities during its production period, it has acquired a certain cult status and is appreciated by lovers of classic sports cars.

The Matra M530, 530LX and 530SX models are sought after by collectors today, but are rarely admired at classic car gatherings and events. These unconventional sports cars represent an interesting chapter in automotive history and represent Matra's ability to innovate in the world of sports cars.
