Mercedes Benz 240D 3.0 W115, 1976

This 240D 3.0 5 cylinder was entrusted to us by its Berlin owner. It was already clear when it was delivered that this was an intensive care car. After dismantling the car, it was completely clear that the bodywork could no longer be saved and needed to be replaced. The project was terminated prematurely for financial reasons.

Encyclopedia

The Mercedes-Benz W115, also known as the "Stroke-Eight", was a series of mid-size sedans and coupes produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1968 to 1976. Introduced together with the W114 as the successor to the W110, this series was a significant milestone in the history of Mercedes-Benz.

The W115 was known for its outstanding quality, durability and safety. It was one of the first vehicles to implement Mercedes-Benz's high safety standards, including reinforced body structures and seat belts on all seats. These innovations helped make the W115 very popular with customers.

The W115 was available in a variety of engine variants, including petrol and diesel engines. The most famous engine was the legendary 2.2-litre inline five-cylinder diesel engine, which was famous for its reliability and efficiency. These diesel engines were considered the first truly economical diesel units in the automotive industry.

The design of the W115 was timeless and elegant, and the sedan and coupe offered spacious interiors with high-quality materials and well-thought-out details.

Overall, the Mercedes-Benz W115 was an important contribution to automotive history, continuing the Mercedes-Benz tradition of quality and innovation. Many examples in more or less good condition can still be seen on the roads of the world today, even though they have almost disappeared in Europe. Mileages of 500,000 to one million kilometers and more with the original engine are not uncommon.
