Pontiac, founded in 1926 as a subsidiary of General Motors, was named after the city of the same name in Michigan and the Native American chief Pontiac. Originally positioned as an affordable brand, Pontiac developed into a symbol of American sportiness and performance in the 1950s and 1960s.
Legendary models such as the GTO, Firebird and Trans Am made Pontiac a cult brand, especially in the muscle car era. With striking design and powerful engines, Pontiac was popular with car fans in the US and beyond.
After years of decline, the brand was discontinued in 2010, but remains remembered as a classic and symbol of American automotive history.
