This great Renault Caravelle convertible came from Germany to the Czech Republic and ultimately found a new home in Germany. With damage to the rear and the usual rust damage in the sills and trunk, the bodywork was more extensive than expected. Mechanically, the Caravelle is almost identical to the Renault R8; only the floor assembly is identical in terms of the bodywork. We showed the Carvelle at several classic car meetings in the Czech Republic before an enthusiast took this great beauty to the greater Wolfsburg area.

Encyclopedia

The Renault Caravelle, also known as the Renault Floride in some markets, was a notable automobile produced by the French automobile manufacturer Renault from 1959 to 1968. This vehicle was a significant contribution to automotive history and an icon of French automobile design of the 1960s.

The Renault Caravelle was characterized by its distinctive and elegant design. The body was a two-door convertible version with space for 2+2 passengers. The design was inspired by the styling of the time, with rounded shapes, sleek lines and a touch of glamour.

Under the hood of the Renault Caravelle was a four-cylinder in-line engine with various displacement variants, including 845 cc, 956 and 1,100 cc. These engines developed power of around 36 to 52 hp, which was sufficient for a convertible of this size. The Renault Caravelle was equipped with a rear engine. The chassis came from the Renault Dauphine and later from the Renault 8.

The Renault Caravelle was particularly popular with women, with the advert featuring Brigitte Bardot boosting sales significantly. Today, well-preserved examples of the Renault Caravelle are highly sought after by collectors of classic cars. This model remains a symbol of French automotive design and elegance of the 1960s.
