Volkswagen VW Karmann Ghia Cabrio, 1972

This wonderful Karmann Ghia convertible also came to us from Hamburg just for a new paint job. The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, a stylish and elegant coupe and cabriolet, is a striking example of the collaboration between the German automotive industry and Italian design. Produced from 1955 to 1974, the Karmann Ghia combines the reliable technology of the Volkswagen Beetle with an attractive body designed by the renowned Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Ghia and manufactured by the German company Karmann.

With its flowing lines and sporty elegance, the Karmann Ghia was a clear departure from the more utilitarian Volkswagen models of the time. The curved front, rounded fenders and sleek rear make both the coupe and the convertible timeless classics that still find many admirers today.

Technically, the Karmann Ghia is based on the chassis and drivetrain of the Volkswagen Beetle. This rear-wheel drive configuration with an air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine in the rear provided a robust and reliable driving experience that was typical of Volkswagen products of this era.

The Karmann Ghia was initially introduced as a coupe and a convertible version was added in 1957. Over the course of its production life, the model received several updates, both in design and technical equipment, including more powerful engines and improved interior fittings.

Today, the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia enjoys cult status among classic car enthusiasts. Its unique combination of proven VW technology and Italian design makes it a sought-after collector's item. The Karmann Ghia is not only a symbol of post-war automotive history, but also an example of successful international design cooperation.

Embodying an era that successfully combined affordability and style, the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia remains a coveted piece of automotive history. Its timeless design and historical significance make it a popular item for classic car enthusiasts.
