Wartburg was a traditional car brand from the GDR, whose origins date back to 1898. The first vehicles were produced in Eisenach at that time. After the Second World War, production of the Wartburg 311 began in 1955, named after the nearby Wartburg.
The models were known for their two-stroke engines, which characterized them until the 1980s. Wartburg stood for solid, affordable vehicles that were popular in many countries of the Eastern Bloc. With German reunification, production ended in 1991. Today, Wartburg vehicles are considered sought-after classics that preserve a piece of automotive history and technology from the GDR era.
